Below the sermon audio is the sermon text, basically what was preached in the pulpit! This was a moving sermon for me to reflect upon and to preach. The Gospel hymn spoke of “the heart” and I chose “Come thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to thy accord” as the sermon response instead… Continue reading
Sermon “On Thanksgiving”. Sunday September 29th 2019. Trinity Church, Newport RI. The Reverend Alan Neale
The little homily (homilette?) below was part of a Eucharistic service prepared to give thanks for donors to various projects to enhance our church and also to give thanks for those who actually did the work with mind and hand. My colleague, Bishop James Jelinek, preached on what is to come; I was asked to… Continue reading →
A fun and good couple to meet, an honor to officiate at their wedding!
It was great fun meeting Leslie and John and then subsequent conversations whether in person or by telephone. When we first met Leslie and I got into some straight talk about the value of a professional officiant over choosing a friend; I though my straight talk had lost them… but it didn’t and I am… Continue reading →
Sermon “Now Here’s a Surprise”. Trinity Church, Newport RI. Sunday 22nd September 2019. The Reverend Alan Neale
The text for the sermon is below the audio, and the audio is of the early 8am service not the later 10am. Hearing both (!) Overall… relationships (with other people, with a divine being, with a pet) are stressed often – not quantity, but quality! Pew Study: Meaning of Life

Oh such a privilege and joy to marry Katie and Todd… it was a bright though cold November day, crisp and clean speaking of all things new and wonderful. Trinity Church as always… at its best for weddings. And Katie and Todd asked that the Cana Wedding story be read at their wedding… it’s a… Continue reading →
Sermon “She Found Her Voice”. Trinity Church, Newport RI. Sunday November 18th 2018. The Reverend Alan Neale
It wasn’t until I heard (again) the I Samuel reading at 10am this morning that I realized that this sermon about “building confidence” was powerfully portrayed in Hannah who truly “finds her voice” – I Samuel 1. Hannah finds a voice as she firmly tells the old priest Eli that he is wrong in his… Continue reading →
Sermon “Entitlement”. Trinity Church, Newport RI. Sunday October 21 2018. The Reverend Alan Neale
So… it seems I was so excited to get to the theme of the sermon that I felt entitled to miss the reading of the Gospel! Suddenly it occurred to me that something was missing and so, until I learn how to edit the recording, for this post you hear Gospel and sermon. There was… Continue reading →
