And, you know, it’s really not difficult to translate this article and comments into the ‘language’ of preparing for a wedding.
Inevitably, though sadly, there is enormous pressure on a couple to submit t0 the pressure of ‘wanting to please people’. It’s generally done for the best of reasons including gratitude, respect, kindness but it should be handled with extreme care. The statements a couple makes about ‘pleasing people’ for their wedding are often assumed to be the same statements they will make for their marriage – alas!
A principle I suggest for consideration is this: those who love you will want you to be happy, those who love themselves more will want themselves to happy and the rest… they’ll enjoy the wedding and reception whatever!
And, you knew I would write this, this tension is eased when you talk with a marriage guide/officiant with years of experience – yes me!
